Manner? -- Dmueller 13:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

What does "manner" mean in the context of "The manner in which a work is written"?

QUESTION? 2nd paragraph "D. Mueller says" followed by what may be a quote or a paraphrase, did he really say all of that. I don't think that appropriate attribution is given. Also, who is this D. Mueller? Should a page be written about him? --Ebaker9 19:33, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Minot is wonderfully vague like that. Probably why he then devotes the next ten pages of the chapter to expanding his six features of style.

According to dictionary.com:
Manner (n)
a way of doing, being done, or happening; mode of action, occurrence, etc.
I don't like the manner in which he complained.
synonyms: demeanor, Manner applies to a distinctive mode of behavior, or social attitude toward others, a gracious manner.
"The manner in which a work is written", by this definition, means the specific way in which the writer expresses themselves to the reader. This could mean the writer's style, form, word usage, ability to be understood by the reader and/or the way in which the writer carries themselves in prose.

I noticed that this page on "Style" was missing Strunk's point of view. That would be something of a substantial addition.
