Grammar

There are two types of grammar.

-->Prescriptive Grammar Contains 4 basic elements:

  Atoms (morphemes)
  Principles
  Rules
  Definitions

The output of Prescriptive Grammar is strictly limited to Standard/Correct English. It is usually intended as an aid to the learning of English.

Example:

  Never use double negatives.
  Stray away from using the habitual be.

-->Descriptive Grammar Contains 4 basic elements:

  Principles
  Rules
  Definitions

The output of Descriptive Grammar is fact. This is language that is systematically used by different groups of people.

Example:

  We ain't got no money.
  The cup be on the table.
