Adverbs

An adverb's primary function is to modify or more clearly explain a verb, an adjective or another adverb. In its most common form an adverb can be identified by an -ly suffix.

Examples

The Pistons played terribly; they only scored 65 points against the worst team in the league.

-Terribly explains how they played. It modifies the verb.

I was terribly tired.

-Terribly explains how tired. It modifies the adjective.
